New DS Announced! Nintendo DSi

The new DS was just announced by Nintendo, it’s called the Nintendo DSi. It will be available in Japan November 1 for $225 AUD. It has 2 cameras, one which is 3MP, multimedia support and an online game store! Sounds great! More news soon!

Xbox 360 slim Confirmed

Microsoft has finally shared some information on the slim version of their Xbox 360 gaming console. There have been rumors about this for a long time and finally Microsoft executives confirmed it exists and said you can expect the official announcement sometime in December. It is expected that the actual device will be shipping in 2009. It is also rumored that it will use a 45nm Valhalla CPU/GPU motherboard, and it should come in a slim case.

ATI HD4830 shapes up to be 9800GT killer

As if ATI hadn’t shaken up the graphics card market enough with its HD4800 series, they are set to create even more of a stir with the release of their latest card the HD4830 set for next month. To give you an idea of what to expect we have obtained this chart which has the 4830 pitted against its rival the 9800gt across a number of gaming benchmarks including Call of Duty 4 and Half Life 2.

Looking over the results, it would appear the little RV770LE based 4830 is quite the performer and leaves the 9800 GT constantly trailing behind. It could prove to be another fantastic bang for buck card from AMD, typical of their 4000 series as a whole.

Update: New Macbook Pro

This week, this image was released to the internet and release dates were discussed.

The photo is supposed to be the new Macbook Pro but it is obviously fake. Someone has done a very poor photoshop job on it because the trackpad has a different reflection. Oh well, at least we are seeing some images of what it might look like. The latest news on the release is that October 14th is the day. I sure hope so, maybe I can pick one up.

Dell quietly releases new 1080p monitor

Dell quietly updated their Canadian online store with the new S2309W. It is a 23″ beauty with 5ms response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 300 cd/m2 brightness, DVI/VGA input and 1920×1080 resolution! Although it is not out here yet, I’m sure it will make it’s way over soon.

Dell are in our opinion, the best monitor manufacturers. I have a 2407 and Totally Unr3al is the proud owner of a 2707.

Nvidia renames 9 series, GTX 280+ due October 15th

To alleviate much of the confusion regarding Nvidia naming schemes for their current cards they are generically naming all the 9 series cards under the GT100 branding. The new naming convention will apparently apply to all 55nm GeForce 9 series cards. It is reported that by the end of 2008, Nvidia will be offering today’s 9000 series as G100, GT130, GT140 and G150 models.

It has also come to light that Nvidia also has newer GTX 200 series cards ready to launch on October 15th. It is unknown what “new” cards Nvidia is making available but we are betting its the 55nm die shrink of the GTX 280 aka the GTX 280+ and maybe even the GTX 350. Exciting times as usual in the world of graphics cards, I can’t wait to see what Nvidia has in store for us.

Nehalem won’t increase game perfomance much

Those of you expecting miracles with game performance on Core i7 CPUs are going to find this disappointing. It is reported that some titles will get a performance boost of 10 to 15 percent, but most will get less than 10 percent. Once again the issue is that games simply cannot take the advantage of four cores. With the Core i7 Intel finds themselves with the same problem it has the with Core 2 Quad generation of CPUs. The Core i7 has four physical cores and eight threads when it uses Hyper-threading. Games simply cannot take the advantage as it’s very hard to make a code that can run eight threads simultaneously, even if games are coded to take advantage of 8 threads, such an engine would end up being slower with the older generation of CPUs.

Left 4 Dead system requirements are out

Halflife2.net forums has recently posted system requirements for Valve’s upcoming shooter Left 4 Dead. Although not specified we assume these are the minimum requirements, so you should probably double all of these specs to receive the best experience. Users of the forum have been complaining the 7.5gb is steep but its a small price to play for this kind of carnage.

The requirements are as follows:

OS: Windows Vista, XP or 2000

CPU: 3.0 GHz P4, Dual Core 2.0 or AMD64X2 (or higher)

RAM: 1 GB for XP / 2GB for Vista

Optical Drive: DVD-ROM Drive

HD: At least 7.5 GB of free space

Graphics: Direct X 9 compatible video card (Video card must be 256 MB or more and should be a DirectX 9-compatible with support for pixel shader 2.0)

Audio: Direct X9.0c compatible sound card

New Halo game announced, but what is it?

Bungie just released the teaser for its new Halo game but what is it?

Apparently, it is an expansion to the Halo 3 campaign. It does say Halo 3 at the end of the teaser so maybe this is true. Would that mean no multiplayer? Maybe they want to get the game out very fast and they just want to continue the story? Hopefully its a brand new DLC campaign! Who knows, hopefully there will be more news soon!

Adobe and NVIDIA team up to boost performance 7x

Adobe CS4 will support NVIDA CUDA which means GPU acceleration which will result in performance boosts of up to 7x!

This is great news for all of you Creative Suite users, when you have a GeForce 8/9/200/quadro card installed in your system, you will receive additional performance boosts from your graphics cards! This is another reason to consider upgrading/purchasing the new Adobe Creative Suite 4.
